Relatively new, Massive Open Online Courses quickly became one of the most discussed higher education innovation topics. To date, millions of students attend the courses designed by dozens of the world leading universities.
The panellists will talk about MOOC’s directions, perspectives, and role in the future of education.
The following points will be discussed:
- To which degree the today’s popularity of MOOCs corresponds to their real place in the future of education, and which degree it is the result of advertising, marketing and fashion? Do MOOCs teach as good as regular universities?
- Virtually all MOOC platforms collect lots of data about the process of learning. What conclusions can be made from the data collected already? How do the MOOCs change as the result of this data?
- Will the virtual education replace schools and universities in the future? Or will educational institutions utilize the opportunities of MOOC to improve the quality and effectiveness of education?
- How the MOOCs in their current form, use the opportunities provided by technology? Will MOOCs remain in form of ordinary courses transferred to online courses, or evolve into something completely new?

Since 2010 Andrey Ivanov is the member of executive team in JetBrains company, the world leader in professional software development tools. During this time, the main development center of JetBrains in St. Petersburg has doubled, and the company shows a steady growth of turnover by 40% per year.
Prior to that Andrey was the leader of the St. Petersburg Development Centers, such as Borland and Yandex, and ran his own company SwiftTeams. His overall path in IT-sector is 17 years long, starting from a programmer to the senior manager in international business in a high-professional team.
Andrey is one of the founders of the Academy of Modern Software Engineering, where during two years of the free study students can can get additional relevant knowledge demanded by the programming market.
Currently, the Academy is part of the Computer Science Center (http://compscicenter.ru), where Andrey is leading the Software Engineering stream.
Andrey is also the deputy director of the Department of Mathematics and Information Technologies in St. Petersburg Academic University of the Russian Academy of Sciences (http://mit.spbau.ru).
Andrey realizes the importance of preparing the young professionals for the rapidly growing IT market, and actively developers relations with relevant higher education institutions in St. Petersburg and the regions. In the nearest future JetBrains will open a new lab in one of the leading Russian educational institutions.
Andrey graduated from the Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University (LETI) in 1994.

Dmitry Repin is a CEO of Digital October, a center for new technology and technology entrepreneurship in Moscow, Russia.
Dmitry has a BS in physics from Moscow Engineering Physics Institute and a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from Boston University. He also worked as a Senior Researcher at MIT Sloan School.
Currently, Dr. Repin is also an invited Professor of Entrepreneurship at the New Economic School. Formerly, he was a Professor of Finance at the Higher School of Economics and a Start-up Projects Director at Skolkovo Moscow School of Management.
Dmitry Repin is a licensed sailing captain with over 7000 nautical miles sailed in the past 10 years. In 2007, he created eXtrepreneurship, a unique program, where he teaches entrepreneurship aboard a sailboat.
In 2012, Dmitry has received Global Business Leader of the Year award from Horasis Forum in Luxembourg.
